Pick what you think is one of the most important quotes in To Build a Fire and illustrate it on the provided poster board. You may work in groups of up to three or on your own. Please submit both the hard copy, and a photo of your project to google classroom. If you're home, you may use any paper you have available.

Just like you found a theme in The Hate You Give, look for a theme in "To Build a Fire." Remember, themes are complete sentences (not one word) and sound like a piece of advice that can apply to anyone. Write one page (Times New Roman, 12pt, 1" margins, double spaced) identifying your theme and supporting it with relevant quotes from the story. This doesn't need to be structured like an essay, but you do need quotes and to explain how those quotes support your theme.

Find two quotes in the story "To Build a Fire" that show characterization. 

Think about a time you spent outdoors in the winter. Describe that moment using lots of imagery (sensory language). 10-15 sentences.

Watch the video and review the material on sonnets. Explain what a sonnet is, then, choose one linked sonnet and use your best effort to explain its meaning. This should be 20-30 complete sentences total. This is a tricky one, but remember, go slow and look for the words you do know.

Can you relate any of your experiences as a high school student to the big fight between the Athenians/lovers in the woods? What do you think that fight says about the lovers? The fairies? 10-15 sentences

Much of Shakespeare's humor relies on mistaken identity. What mistakes are happening in the play right now and who made them? Can you relate this to another piece of literature (tv and movies count!) or a personal story where mistaken identity comes up? 10-15 sentences

Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not? Can you relate the question to what's happening in the play? 10-15 sentences. 

Describe the relationship between Helena, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius. Who cares for who? Who pushes who away? Can you make a connection to your life or another story you've read? Can you make a prediction for who will end up marrying who? 10-15 sentences. 

How would you feel if your guardians owned you like Hermia's father owned her? Would you trust them to choose who you'd marry? Why or why not? 10-15 sentences

Describe the globe theater. What does the structure of the theater tell us about who enjoyed Shakespeare?

Write a 2-3 page paper identifying a major theme in "The Hate U Give" and supporting it with evidence (that means direct quotes) from the novel. Your essay should be in Times New Roman font, double spaced, 1" margins. You should also put an MLA heading at the top of your paper and a title.

Follow the in class directions and write an outline containing your theme and your essay.

Find 3-5 GREAT quotes that support your theme from the text.

Listen to the speech given by Malcolm X (who Mav keeps a framed picture of) and the Black Panther 10 point program that Mav has his children memorize (under "What We Want" in the UC Berkley link). Then compare the speech and the pledge with Mav's ideals, beliefs and actions throughout the course of the book. I'm looking for 20-30 complete sentences with specific examples from the book. 

Starr's Mom keeps telling her that "sometimes things go wrong, but the key is to keep doing right." Explain what this quote means in the book. 10-15 sentences.

Starr tell Chris "I don't need  you agree, just try to understand how I feel" (390). In what ways can you understand how Starr and DeVante feel at first? What changes Starr's mind about the riots(look on p397)?

Why does Kenya only ever call Seven "my brother"? Why does that bother Starr? 10-15 sentences.
