Creative Writing-Spring 2022 Assignments

Choose one genre we've explored this year and create a 5 page (Times New Roman, 12pt, double spaced, 1" margins) piece of your choice. If you choose poems, you need to create 5 poems. This is an effort grade so just do your best! 

Write a 2-3 page (Times New Roman, double spaced, 1" margins) fictional short story. It can be any genre you'd like so long as it's fiction. 

Write a 2 page nonfiction story about something that's happened in your life. You don't need to share anything you're not comfortable with; remember how funny the nano-pup story was? Include details and think about other elements we noticed in The Moth stories such as hyperbole, timing, imagery, and tone. Stick to times new roman font, 12 point, double spaced. 

Write 15-20 sentences about which Moth story was your favorite and why.

Go back through your scene and add in camera angles, lighting etc. 

Choose one scene from your movie and write 2-3 pages of just dialogue

Write a 1-2 page list of plot points and details that you think would be fun to watch/write

Write a one page (can be double spaced) free verse poem. 

Write an original vilanelle over the course of the week. 

Use the copies of your classmates anonymous sonnets to create original blackout or found poems. You may use scissors/glue or markers to create a poem you submit a picture of or you can simply copy out the lines in a document. 

Write an original Shakespearian sonnet to the best of your abilities. Remember, everything in creative writing is an effort grade, so just do your best. 

Use the planning we have done in class to write a 3-7 page short story (times new roman, 1" margins, 12 point font, double spaced).  Remember, this is an effort grade so if you finish the assignment in class with your best effort, you'll receive the credit. 

Make a list of the important events in your story in order to get a sense of your pacing. Once you're done, yo ucan start writing your story! 

Fill out the Character questionnaire for 1-3 MAIN characters, 2-4 SECONDARY characters and at least one antagonist. You may omit 2 questions for main characters and antagonists and up to 5 for secondary characters. Don't forget to also note if the character is STATIC or DYNAMIC. Your characters should have flaws as well as good qualities.

What is their general disposition? Are they frowny? Or are they smiley?
Where do they live?
What do they eat?
How do they dress?
Do they dress to impress?
Do they dress in a way that is appropriate for their age, or do they dress to look younger or older than they are?
What major experiences have they had in their lives?
Have they had any traumatic experiences?
Did they have a bad childhood?
Or did they have a good childhood suddenly destroyed by a traumatic event?
What are their ruminations?
Do they have any obsessions?
Are they in love?
Do they have any pets?
Do they have any medical conditions?
What do they like to do in their spare time? (Do they have any spare time?)
What are their friends like?
What are their hobbies?
What they are most embarrassed by?
Where they went on their first date? (And with whom?)

Bring in your favorite book, poem, or play (let me know if you'd like me to print something) and be ready to share with the class at least 3 specific reasons you enjoy that piece of writing.
