Google vs Databases–What’s the difference?

  • \
  • Google is a search engine–great for a quick answer to a basic question
  • Information comes up based on usage statistics, not accuracy
  • Information not verified or validated–anyone can create a website and post, not necessarily factual or accurate, so all website must be evaluated before use
  • Most newspapers, magazines, and journals  have a paywall
  • Images are often copyrighted and not free for use
  • Databases are collections of materials from reliable sources–best for research
  • All information comes from scholarly journals, books, and magazines
  • Sources are all verified for accuracy
  • Images are free for use
  • Citation is always provided
  • Often has similar materials come up that are related
